Having power is not a free pass to corruption: Anwar

PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he will always remember that having power is not tantamount to be part of corruption because the Rakyat will rise to oppose you.

In his official speech before a big crowd of supporters in front of Port Dickson's Pakatan Harapan operational room, the PKR president-elect said he was touched by the support given by the locals.

“Not many parliamentary areas show such support. Today I am officially the MP of Port Dickson. Today's victory is the proof that the majority chose the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

“To all those who helped me, I will not betray your trust,” he said adding that he learnt that the Rakyat will oppose you through ballot box if one thinks that having power equivalent to a free pass of corruption.

Anwar also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was unwell but managed to come down to campaign for him.

Anwar also reminded the crowd that reforms must take place.

“For the future of Malays, Chinese, Indians and all, we must make sure that we clean the judiciary, government, media and others,” he said

Also present at his victory speech were outgoing PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
