KUCHING: A 64-year old retired postman fell victim to the popular fraud scheme known as the 'Macau Scam', losing almost RM3,000 in the process.
Sarawak Police Headquarters Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mustafa Kamal said that on Oct 12, the victim received a phone call from the number 03-92125972, where a purported 'bank officer' told him that his credit card had been used at another bank in Puchong, Selangor, incurring a loss of about RM6,000.
“The suspect then asked the victim to come to a bank at Saradise, BDC, Kuching and directed him to change his bank card's pin number, instructions which the victim complied with,” he said in a press statement, here today.
After performing a check, the victim realised that the suspect had made a transfer out from his account amounting to RM2,998.74. — Bernama
