BUTTERWORTH: Police have detained eight men who beat up and caused injury to three people at a food outlet in Jalan Raja Uda, here last Saturday.
Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) Police Chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the eight men, aged between 20 and 35, were detained over the last two days in several raids conducted in various parts of Penang.
“Police believe that with the detention of the eight men believed to be involved in the incident, we have have solved the case,” he said, here today.
He said all the men have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigations and the case is being investigated under Section 326 and Section 148 of the Penal Code.
In the incident at 10.15pm on Saturday, three men had gone to the food outlet to discuss with one of the eight regarding a debt he owed them.
An argument broke out between them, then the suspect and several of his friends attacked the victim and his friends with chairs and parangs.
The three men, aged between 20 and 28, suffered injuries on their legs and arms as well as bruises and cuts on the head and hands.
In a separate development, Noorzainy said police detained four men who were taking drugs in a unit in the Ampang Jajar flats here yesterday, and seized heroin and syabu worth RM600.
He said in the raid at 2pm, four men, aged between 18 and 37, were in a high state and urine tests found them to be positive for drugs.
“One of the four men was the owner of the house and he was believed to have supplied drugs to addicts who went there to take it,” he added. — Bernama
