KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton champion, Datuk Lee Chong Wei is still itching to join training camp even though he is recuperating after treatment for early-stage nose cancer.
This was impression was portrayed by former Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who uploaded his observations in his Instagram site, @khairykj after visiting Chong Wei today.
In his latest posting, Khairy also praised the former world number one for his spirit and positive response.
“Visited the champ (champion) today. He's back from six weeks of cancer treatment in Taiwan. I asked if he's going to keep playing. Can't wait to return to the court, he (Chong Wei) replied. Glad to see @leechongweiofficial in good spirit and doing so well,” Khairy updated his instagram account @khairykj today.
Khairy said in his meeting, Chong Wei appeared healthy and cheerful even though he lost 5kg after undergoing six weeks of treatment in Taiwan.
“The prognosis (likely course of a medical condition) is good. Needs to strengthen his immune system. Malaysia prays for your speedy and full recovery,” he added.
Yesterday, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said Chong Wei would not be holding a media conference soon as the player needed to rest and strengthen his immune system before meeting members of the public.
Following his ailment, Chong Wei did not play in the World Championship in China and the Asian Games in Indonesia in August. — Bernama
