Witness held over conflicting statements in graft cases

JOHOR BARU: A housewife was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after she gave contradictory statements in court as a witness in two bribery cases.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias said the 34-year-old woman was the key witness in two bribery cases which involved a State Veterinary Department officer.

He said the woman was detained as her statement was not consistent, false, or had caused confusion to the investigation and prosecution officers.

She was arrested at Johor MACC headquarters at about 10.50am today.

She is being investigated under Section 27(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009 which carries a fine up to RM100,000 or a jail term of up to 10 years or both upon conviction.
