Anwar: I am happier if there is no contest in PD

PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed Umno's decision to boycott the Port Dickson by-election on Oct 13.

“I encourage those who wish to contest but I am happier if there is no contest. I still have to run against an independent candidate,” he said in Kuala Lumpur today.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday said the RM3.6 million it cost to hold the by-election could have been put to better use.

“We see that a seat was vacated to fulfil the political ambitions of one person … We take the stand that Barisan Nasional would protest this Port Dickson by-election,” Zahid said.
