Allianz staff celebrate Malaysia Day with tour of historical sites

Allianz Malaysia’s employees were treated to a hop-on hop-off tour of historical sites in the city centre as part of its Malaysia Day celebrations. One of the stops was the iconic Tugu Negara (National Monument) located at Jalan Parlimen.

KOTA KINABALU: Allianz Malaysia gave employees a real treat when they took them on a hop-on hop-off tour of historical sites in the city as part of its Malaysia Day celebrations.

Malaysia Day marks the formation of Malaysia (the joining of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore) on 16 September 1963 before Singapore broke away in 1965. Allianz employees had to participate in a ‘Know Your Country Better’ contest to earn their ticket for the six-hour excursion which featured important landmarks such as Parliament Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and of course Dataran Merdeka.

“It is a special time at the office when Malaysia Day comes around. This year, our big surprise was the hop-on hop-off tour which was a great way to get reacquainted with the rich history that surrounds us and is part of our daily lives,” said Zakri Khir, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad.

“The beauty behind celebrating this historical day is so that no matter where our friends and colleagues are, be it in Penang or all the way in Kota Kinabalu, and regardless of our colour, creed or religion that we were, at heart, one nation and one people – we are Malaysians,” added Zakri.

Besides the tour, employees also participated in a host of activities including a ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ branch decoration contest and hidden talent (sketching) contest and also received a goodie bag with childhood treats such as Apollo Chocolate Stick Wafer, Ice Gem biscuits, White Rabbit Creamy Candy, Haw Flakes, Popo’s Muruku Ikan and Chocolate 8.

Having previously worked with local social enterprise Projek57 on the #AllianzbersatuteguhUnity Ribbon campaign, employees were encouraged to take photos of them wearing the Unity Ribbon which was then made into a collage to represent the diversity at Allianz Malaysia.
