SSB Sibu starts sale of White Cane stickers

SIBU: Sarawak Society for The Blind (SSB), Sibu Branch launched its annual White Cane Sticker sale yesterday in conjunction with International White Cane Day.

The objective of the sale is to create awareness on the White Cane Day

SSB advisor Datuk Ding Lian Cheon purchased the first sticker to mark the beginning of the sale.

Event organising chairman Hung Sing Kai said the public had previously responded positively to past sales.

“Ding has been the main sponsor for many years. We’re also grateful to all for supporting our event,� Hung added.

Students from about
20 secondary schools here have been enlisted as helpers in the sale. They will be involved in the sale of stickers, which will last for a month.

The International White Cane Day was initiated in the United States in 1930.

SSB Sibu Division chairman Clarence Ting, deputy chairperson Datin Judy Lau, secretary Wong Duan Ding and treasurer Lang Jai Lee were among those who witnessed the launching of the sale yesterday.
