GEORGE TOWN: The immigration Department has detected a syndicate offering sex service via the social applications WhatsApp and WeChat which ranged from RM150 to RM200 per session.
This followed a raid at a hotel in Jalan Rangoon here last night where 10 women of foreign nationalities were arrested. Some of them were busy entertaining clients that they did not realise the presence of the enforcement personnel.
It is learnt the syndicate would screen the clients first before they were allowed into a hotel.
Penang Immigration Department enforcement chief Khwaja Banthey Navaz Mohamad Haneef said the foreign women detained were Thai, Indonesia and Myanmar nationals, aged between 20 and 35.
They have misused their social visit pass by working as prostitutes at the hotel, he said.
Meanwhile, in another raid at a budget hotel in Jalan Kampung Deli here yesterday, Khwaja Banthey Navaz said eight Indonesia women and a Bangladeshi woman were detained for abusing their social visit pass by prostituting.
Also detained were their clients, comprising six men of Bangladeshi, Myanmar and Nepalese nationality, he added.
He said it was the second raid conducted at the hostel since two weeks ago. — Bernama
