Security guard claims trial to breaching protection order

PETALING JAYA: A security guard pleaded not guilty in the magistrate's court here today to breaching the protection order under the Domestic Violence Act and breaking his wife's car window last month.

Gurmit Singh Ranjit Singh, 37, was charged with intentionally breaching the protection order by interrupting Norsuha Kassim, 37, and committing mischief by breaking her car window at the parking lot of One City, USJ 1, Subang Jaya, here at 11.30pm on July 8.

The charge was brought under Section 8(1) of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 which is punishable by up to six months jail, RM2,000 fine or both and Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, which carries a maximum jail term of a year, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Nurshahira Abdul Salim allowed bail of RM3,000 and set Sept 3 for mention. — Bernama
