KUALA LUMPUR: An Afghanistan man was fined RM1,000, in default three month's imprisonment, by the magistrate's court here today, after he pleaded guilty to outraging the modesty of a woman in a bus last week.
Asadullah Safari, 32, a cleaner, was charged with using criminal force with the intention to outrage the modesty of the 21-year-old victim, while travelling in a bus to Dang Wangi on July 8 at 6pm.
The charge framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, if convicted.
Earlier the accused, who was represented by counsel K. Syama Sundar, appealed for a lighter sentence but deputy public prosecutor Nur Nabila Kamarudin urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence. — Bernama
