Perlis MB hopeful of federal support for high-impact projects

ARAU: Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said he is confident that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will support development projects being implemented in the state that are also beneficial to the country.

“I am confident the Prime Minister will not neglect Perlis because he has said that he will not discriminate against states not administered by the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition.

“When the Barisan Nasional (BN) was in power at the federal level, states under opposition control were not neglected,” he said at the press conference where he announced the portfolios of the state executive councillors.

The BN won 10 of the 15 seats in the Perlis state assembly in the general election on May 9 to form a state government with a two-thirds majority. Pakatan Harapan won three seats and PAS, two.

Azlan said one of his priorities was the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) development while certain projects would be reassessed to provide the latest input to the Ministry of Economic Affairs for its consideration.

“This (CVIA) is a high-impact project which will also benefit the country. We have interested investors. As such, I will have discussions with the relevant ministry for the project to be given the appropriate attention by the federal government,” he added. — Bernama
