Marine police seize firecrackers, fireworks worth RM250k

TUMPAT: Firecrackers and fireworks worth RM250,000 were seized by the marine police in a raid at an illegal store in Kampung Simpangan here yesterday.

Pengkalan Kubor Region 3 commanding officer, ASP Ahmad Amri Abdul Rahman said the raid, which also involved personnel from the Malaysian Royal Customs Department, was conducted at about 9.30pm following surveillance.

He said the firecrackers and fireworks were contained in 76 boxes in two lorries in the compound of the store.

There were a few men in the area, but they all fled into the undergrowth nearby, he told a media conference here today.

He said the firecrackers and fireworks were believed to have been smuggled into the country by boat. — Bernama
